Our Story

From Within Performing Arts Academy was established in 2008 in Strathfield, Sydney. The school aspires to assist students to express themselves creatively and reach their full potential in a diverse range of performance and educational areas. The school initially began with classes in Tap, Classical Ballet, Jazz and Hip Hop but over the years has expanded to include a wide range of classes due to the diverse qualifications and experiences of the teachers at the studio. The studio provides courses in open and Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) Dance classes (Acrobatics, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Classical Ballet), Speech & Drama (private and group AMEB Speech & Drama as well as group drama classes), Primary & High School Tutoring (taught by experienced and qualified Primary and Secondary NSW teachers), Reading & Writing tutoring (taught by qualified TESOL teachers), Singing lessons (AMEB accredited teachers) and Bridal dance classes. From Within provides performance opportunities for students in events such as eisteddfods, exams, fetes and presentation evenings. The school has a strong focus on nurturing the unique creativity and ability of each individual student, encouraging them to take risks, be spontaneous, confident and to create. The school now has two locations: Strathfield and Revesby.

Staff

Melissa Cameron (Principal)

Melissa has been involved in performing arts since a young age. While her primary focus has been on music and drama, she has always enjoyed participating in a variety of dance opportunities. Melissa has completed a combined Bachelor of Teaching/ Bachelor of Arts in Humanities as well as a variety of post graduate teaching degrees including her Certificate in TESOL and Masters in Inclusive Education. These qualifications help her to ensure that From Within Performing Arts Academy continues to provide the best care and learning support to all their students across all areas of performing arts and wider achievement.

Laura Musolino (Founder)

Laura commenced dancing at the age of five and has continued to pursue her passion for performance. From a young age she had the opportunity to learn and teach various styles of dancing including Contemporary, Lyrical, Ballroom, Classical Ballet, Tap, Jazz and Hip Hop. At 16 years old, she completed the Australian Teachers of Dancing (ATOD) examinations to the Intermediate level for Classical Ballet, Tap and Jazz. From 2001 onwards, Laura competed in the NSW Scholarship Competitions for Jazz, Classical Ballet and Tap gaining various places. After achieving places in the top three at numerous NSW Scholarship Competitions (including 2nd Place in Classical Ballet), she has had the opportunity to compete in the Australasian Scholarships for Classical Ballet. In year eleven she undertook Dance as an accelerant HSC student achieving a Band 6 and a Callback to perform in the NSW Showcase of exemplary performances by HSC students of Dance. Laura is an accredited Speech and Drama teacher, completing the Certificate of Drama and Performance Aust. (C.D.P.A.), Certificate in Speech Communication Aust. (C.S.C.A.) and Associate in Drama and Performance (A.D.P.A.). She has also undertaken singing AMEB examinations and Pianoforte AMEB examinations. Laura also completed a double degree in Bachelor of Science / Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Sydney and went on to complete a Diploma of Secondary Education / Certificate in Religious Education at the Australian Catholic University. She is a qualified and practicing Science teacher and Coordinator (Chemistry, Biology) and Religious Education teacher.
